The SIKA gear wheel volume sensors are suitable for the detection of high and variable viscosity flow rates, i.a. in the following fields of application:
- Consumption measurement
- Control of filling operations
- Dosing of oils and chemicals
- Capture of paints / varnishes
A very precisely fitted pair of gears within the housing forms the measuring mechanism. The inflowing medium sets the gear pair in rotation. The rotational movement is scanned contactless by sensors. Since every single tooth generates a pulse, a very high resolution results. Thus, even the smallest volumes can be exactly measured or metered.
To obtain a 2-channel flow-proportional frequency signal, two sensors are inserted in the measuring unit (offset by ¼ tooth pitch). With appropriate further processing of the signal, one obtains a further increased resolution and the possibility of detecting the direction of flow.
The maximum pressure drop should not exceed 16 bar. This limits the measuring range for highly viscous media (see pressure loss diagrams).
